Q

Mechanoreceptors= proprioceptors

A

Located in locomotor system

  • Muscle spindle receptors: sensitive to stretching
  • Golgi tendon organs: tension of tendons
  • Joint receptors: signal position of joints
-… in skin and brain signals help the body to sense and predict movement

Q

Importance of proprioception

A

If nerves are damaged you use the ability to control movement properly,
If vision is also lost you lose sense of the location of your limbs and experience loss of ownership

Q

Info from proprioception

A
  • Automatic responses
  • Complex automatic and conscious (usually become integrated with information of other sensory modalities)
  • we focus on visuals and lot

Q

Example for different sensory modalities

A

Rubber hand illusion (RHT)
-Experiment Aufbau
Synchrony of tactile and visual information is the same so they believe the rubber hand is their own hand

Q

Proprioceptive accuracy

A

The ability to perceive proprioceptive information consciously

Measurable:
-> joint position reproductive test: your body gets moved a certain position and they have to redo the same position with eyes closed

Positively associated with motor performance

Can be improved

Q

Proprioception in psych

A

Input of it plays a role in emotional experience
- different positions can relate to bigger self confidence
- reduced muscle tension relaxes
