Evoked by hot and cold, mechanical and chemical stimuli

- pain threshold: minimal intensity of stimulation which is perceived as painful
- pain tolerance: level of discomfort that elicits and avoidance reaction
Pain leads to sympathetic activation, can be measured by HR ETC

- Cold pressure test: cold receptors in the hand
- Ischemic pain: in striated muscles by minimizing oxygen supply
- Thermal pain: pain induced in the skin with appropriate nociceptors. Heat
- Electrical pain: electrical current through skin
