  • top-down factors (expectations and meanings of pain) and includes suffering
  • multidimensional construct
  • pain threshold: minimal intensity of stimulation which is perceived as painful
  • pain tolerance: level of discomfort that elicits and avoidance reaction

Pain leads to sympathetic activation, can be measured by HR ETC
