Properties of water 2.2.2 Flashcards
What are the 6 properties of water?
- Liquid
- Solvent
- Density
- Cohesion and surface tension
- High latent heat of vaporisation
- High specific heat capacity
How does water being a liquid aid the environment?
As it is liquid
How does water being a good solvent aid the environment?
How does the density of water aid the environment?
How does the high latent heat of vaporisation in water aid the environment?
How does high specific heat capacity in water aid the environment?
Why is water liquid at room temperature?
Because the hydrogen bonds between the water molecules make it difficult for them to escape and become a gas.
Why is water more dense than ice?
As water cools, the water molecules align themselves in a structure which is less dense than water.
Why is water a good solvent?
Because it is a polar molecule, so the positive and negative parts of water are attracted to the positive and negative parts of the solute.
Why does water have cohesion and surface tension properties?
