When advancing classes, Every 12 months after anniversary, Any employee who FAILS a classification exam.
- CANNOT advance to the next class, for how long ?
If you fail a classification exam
you can’t advance for SIX (6) months

Classification exams need a 70% overall
- But can get what in each three categories ?
- Written
- Practical
- Medical
(60% to pass each with a 70% overall to pass)

- What part of the exam do you have to repeat ?
- You only need to redo the element you failed

It is not the responsibility of the Corporation to ensure that any employee is
- Any request for re examination if the employee was simply tired or not prepared ?
- adequately prepared, or as stated above, rested prior to taking these classification examinations.
- Any request for reexamination on this basis will be denied

In order to qualify for a Captains exam
a candidate must ?
- Have a minimum of how many years at First class ?
- Have served at least how many years in the Division PRIOR to the exam ?
- Successfully completed of what ?
- The Date for eligibilty of promotion and of seniority marks will be what ?
- have served a minimum of five (5) years as a 1st Class Firefighter;
- **have served at least two (2) of the five (5) years referred to in (b) (1) in the division immediately prior to the examinations; **
- successfully completed examinations and tests set for the purpose of establishing promotion;
- December 31st of the year of the examinations shall be used as the date to determine eligibility for promotion and to calculate seniority marks.

For each FULL year AFTER the first 5 years PRIOR to the POSTITION APPLIED FOR of that test year. How many SENIORITY marks do you recieve on the final mark up to max?
POSITION APPLIED FOR (CAP OR CHIEF)
1% Per year
to a max of 4%
Calculated as of DEC 31st of that year
SO therefore I get 1% because it’s a full year as of Dec 31st

Upon completion of the exam members are placed;
- Where on the list?
- Until when ?
- If somehow the list is exhausted (what happens)
- Members are placed at the BOTTOM of the current list until it’s exhausted on Jan 1st of that year.
- The list is then NEWLY RANKED Jan 1st
**IF for some reason the list is exhausted they will take from the bottom**
**this would never happen**

Promotion exams will be held for the purpose of
re-establishing the eligibility list when ?
- How often do they have exams ?
- If there is a need for an officer and there are no eligible candidates available ?
Every three (3) years
*if for some reason there is a need for an officer

an exam will be held*

=If for some reason an Officer is reduced in rank because of work shortage or demotion, due to layoff and recall.
What happens to that officer ?
- Where are they placed on the list ?
- What happens when they need one again ?
- They are placed at the TOP of the eligibility list
- and FIRST to be restored when needed.

TOTAL mark you get on BOTH exams
BEFORE it’s averaged.

All BASE marks are to be averaged.
Then divided by the target of (85%) to set the average factor. Those marks are then ?
Multiplied by the base marks for a final mark rounded to three decimal places

If you previously did and exam and have an 80% but don’t want to do the exam,
you will SIT on an 80%
