Prokaryotic Groupings Flashcards
Deep Branching Thermophiles
closely related to LUCA. lives in extreme conditions
Gram-Positive
Used in antibiotics, lives in high competition, can cause human infection
Spirochaetes
moves by spiraling, coiled shape, gram-negative, human pathogens
Photosynthetic Bacteria
Cyanobacteria, makes sugar and oxygen, lives in aquatic environments
Gram-Negative Bacteria
Alpha- intracellular parasites, mitochondria
Beta- Diverse, lives in soil , nitrogen rich
Gama- Lives in the digestive tract , pathogens
Delta- Lives in colonies and communities, Bdelloribrio
Epsilon- Lives in extreme pH, Stomach Acid , Enteropathogens
DPANN (Archaea)
Lives in extreme pH environments
Euryarchaeota
Lives in extreme salt conditions (Halophiles) and extreme temperatures, Methane producers
Methanogenisis- produces methane
methanotrophy- turns methane into organic compounds
Proteoarchaeota
Most common, we believe that the eukaryotes came from this group. can live in normal and extreme conditions
