Animals Flashcards
Porifera
Sponges, Has no tissue, larvae are motile
Cnidarians
Tentacles with stinging cells to trap prey, sac-like digestive system
Flatworms
flat, soft-bodied , aquatic and moist environments, 1 digestive canal
Rotifera
Microscopic, has true tissues, aquatic, has a head and corona
Round Worms
lives in soil, round, has nerve ends, moves with muscles
Mollusca
Soft-bodied with tentacles has gills and a thin mantel, lives in moist environments
Annelida
soft segmented bodies , has circulatory system , small brains
Arthropoda
insects and spiders . has head , thorax and abdomen , exoskeletons made of chitins
Echinodermata
marine, spiny endoskeleton, digestive tract , lacks brain , water vascular system
Chordata
Has Vertebrate , head and CNS, circulatory system, some have tails and gill pouches in embryonic development
Notochord- forms the vertebrates , spine
Protostomes
has spiral cleavage, blastopore forms mouth, mesoderm is detached from endo and ectoderm , if one cell fails the rest of the organism dies (cells are predesigned for their role)
Deuterostomes
Has Radial Cleavage, Blastopore forms anus , mesoderm is integrated in the endoderm . if one cells fails the others can take its place. cells have the genetic code for everything
HOX Gene
determines the time and pace of development. complex organisms have more than one hox gene. determines symmetry, number of limbs and placements
