Describe, segregation, discrimination, and voting rights in the Southern States
Segregation: the action or state of setting someone or something apart from others
Racial Discrimination: the unjust or prejudicial treatment based on race
Black people had to complete an extra hard literacy test to be allowed to vote: faced violence

NAACP: National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ( 1909)
CORE: Congress of Racial Equality (1942)
Both groups were set up to achieve equality in education, politics and daily life for black Americans

Linda BROWN wanted to go to a school closer to her home which was a white-only school.
Took this case to the supreme court
Was backed by NAACP lawyer Thurgood Marshall
Supreme court ruled segregation in schools UNCONSTITUTIONAL and school were told to desegregate

Some schools desegrated successfully without too much violence
The WCC (White Citizens Council) was set up to stop integration
