A

The KKK were a group of White Anglo Saxon Protestants who believed in the power of white supremacy
They would use violent to punish innocent black people eg lynching

Who was Emmett Till and what happened in 1955

A

Emmett Till was a 14 year old boy from Chicago who was brutally murdered for “Wolf whistling” at a white woman.
His mother made his funeral a open one to show the world what happened.
The murderers were tried by a white jury and released, they later told a magazine what they had done for $3500

What was the importance of Congress and the Dixiecrates?

A

The Dixiecrates were a group of Democrats who didn’t support integration and would try block bills and acts that were in the benefit of the black community, this made passing laws very difficult

The WCC was a group of white parents who would protest against desegregation of schools and they would usually threaten but not directly act, they had the support of the KKK
