Why is a programme important for a project?
Enables effective project management
Roadmap for executing clients requirements/desireAllows stakeholders to monitor and understand progress
Key elements to consider when programming?
Objectives
Scope
Resource
Logical tasks
Contingency
Why is the critical path significant?
Determines the duration of the project
Most logical project sequence
Avoids wasted resource
Allows identification of potential bottlenecks
What is a gantt chart?
Chart with horizontal lines detailing work complete in certain periods of time in relation to planned time
What is a network diagram?
Network diagrams e.g critical path analysis shows logistical relationships. Facilitates the analysis of project timelines.
What is a milestone in a programme?
Usually key critical path items or key financial stepping stones in the project that allow easy tracking of the project by all stakeholders
Maintains focus on project ensuring deadlines maintained
Why is programme tracking important?
Allows early notification of potential delays or issues allowing corrective mitigationary measures to be taken ASAP
What are some typical difficulties with programming?
Incomplete info
Inaccurate info
Client requests
Unforseen technical issues
Long lead items
Weather
Limited resource/labour
Staff turnover
How can you address typical programming issues?
Effective communication
Proactive risk mngmt.
Flexebility
Identification of float
Adaptation
Is programe a contract document in the FIDIC?
No, it is not. Therefore it is not binding on the parties as it is in NEC.
