What is RAAC?
A lightweight ‘bubbly’ form of concrete commonly used 1950’s to 1995.
Used mostly as wall and floor panels allowing rapid construction of schools & hospitals.
Why is RAAC an issue?
Gov issued notice September 2022 - RAAC are now life-expired and liable to collapse.
They are prone to water ingress due to crumbly nature, this then leads to rusting of the rebar.
What is MMC?
Modern Method Construction
e.g. Modular building.
Recent issues in headlines re poor workmanship and schools advised not to open due to failing structural integrity.
Why is MMC an issue?
Pass tests in warehouse but will ultimately only succeed if QA is followed through to construction stages.
