Produktutvecklingsmetodik - produktutvecklingsprocessen Flashcards
What is product development?
A creative process based on the function and quality requirements of different actors and norms and safety requirements that aim to:
- Create, verify and document a technical solution
- Produce manufacturing documentation
With the goal of “good finances” for buyers and suppliers.
What is radical product development?
A new product that creates new needs
What is incremental product development?
An unchanged product core but with small changes
What are the key words in the PD-definition?
Creative process Function and quality requirements from different actors Norms and safety requirements Create, verify and document Produce manufacturing documents Good finances for buyers and suppliers
What are typical characteristics of today’s PD?
- More and more players are getting involved?
- Increased specialization
- More technology in products
- A faster pace of PD
- Increasing price pressure
- Increasing competition
- More legislation
- Increased customer requirements
What is the purpose of a PD process?
- Describe the documents from idea to process
- Places different methods and tools along the process
- Act as a support for the PD team of what to do when and where
What can happen during the PD process?
Iterations. A PD process is rarely linear. Iterations occur in different stages of the process due to missing information or that all the parts are not ready in time
What are the reasons for documenting and refining the PD process?
- Increase knowledge of the process
- Identify problems and possible improvements
- Maintain knowledge within the organization
- Reduce development time and development costs
- Enable earlier and fewer design changes
- Benchmarking
- Improve knowledge transfer from one product to the next
What are the two types of PD?
- Sequential PD
- Integrated PD
What are the pros and cons of sequential PD?
+ Easy to handle
- Long lead time
- bureaucratic
- bad cross contact
- Risk of misunderstanding
- Often “Panic” in the final phase
What are the pros and cons of an integrated PD?
\+ Shorter lead time \+ better optimization of resources \+ good communication between departments \+ management´s overview is simplified \+ cost-effective \+ the right product quality - Make great demands on project management and coordination
What are the three key functions of PD?
- Market
- Construction
- Production
Describe the PD process according to Ulrich and Eppinger
A process funnel:
- planning
- concept generation
- concept elimination
- system design
- detailed design
- test, improvement
- production controll
How do you evaluate a PD process efficiency?
- Profit - but does not reflect what is being done within the framwork of PD
- Time - cost- quality (Ullman)
- Ulrich and Eppinger five parameters
- Product quality
- Product cost
- Development time
- development cost
- development capacity
