Production 2 Flashcards
What’s a match cut?
A type of video transition that plays on the similarities of 2 different shots
What are 2 types of match shot?
Plan the similarities ahead of time:
1) Same shape eg a round tub of hummus and a round plate.
2) same subject - subject remains the same but the environment changes (eg dishwasher spray appearing in 2 different locations).
What’s a dive transition?
Diving through one shot to arrive to another eg opening a suitcase to see another shot.
What do you need for a dive transition?
1) shot needs a gap or opening.
2) editing - a digital zoom
What’s a whip transition?
It uses camera movement to transition to one shot into the next.
What should you remember when filming a whip transition?
Camera has to move in the same direction for both shots.
Have to move tripod quick because you need blur of motion.
Tripod resistance settings need to be low
For table top commercials do an up- down whip transition.
Should you use a frame fill?
No. It’s when a hand or object covers whole camera. It takes to long. A frame block is more impressive.
What’s a frame block?
Like a frame fill but both objects appear at the same time. Eg suitcase moving to reveal a scene.
What’s a masked subject transition?
Use masking to allow both elements to appear at the same time. Eg graces video of unzipping a suitcase to reveal the same suitcase in another colour.
What’s a snap transition?
You snap your fingers and use the same finger snap on every shot.
What’s a snap transition?
You snap your fingers and use the same finger snap on every shot.
