What’s a video?
A series of still photos called frames that move at a fast enough rate so our brains see them as a moving image.
What’s a frame rate
Number of frames your camera captures per second eg 24fps
What happens as a frame rate decreases?
Fewer frames appear per second makes it look choppy and more like photos
What would I shoot in 24fps?
Traditional cinematic projects
Eg music videos
Behind the scenes footage
24fps is the industry standard because it looks as close to the human eye
What would I shoot in 60fps?
Commercial videos
Gives flexibility to slow it down
Gives a hyper realistic look
Smoother than what you would see in real life - crisp look
What would I shoot in 120fps or 240fps?
For super slow motion shots eg objects flying, falling etc
What’s a videos aspect ratio?
The width and height of a video
What’s 16:9 aspect ratio used for?
TV
16 is the width and 9 is the height
What’s 9:16 aspect ratio used for?
Social media
9 is width and 16 height
What’s 4:5 aspect ratio used for?
It’s what instagram used to have
What’s 1:1 aspect ratio used for?
Square size. Occasionally used for example on Facebook
When should you film horizontally?
If posting on any horizontal platform?
Should you film for a square aspect ratio vertically or horizontally?
Either
Should you film vertically or horizontally for a 9:16 or 4:5 ratio?
Vertically

The number of pixels that combine to make up a video
