Processes Undertaken when Designing Flashcards
1
Q
what is the process?
A
- identifying needs and processes
- the design brief
- the constraints
- research/investigation
-design specification and inspiration - initial design ideas
- adaptations of ideas
2
Q
what is identifying needs and processes
A
- finding solutions/meeting the needs and wants of society
- the need, opportunity or problem is central/most important part of thoughts + ideas
3
Q
what is the design brief?
A
- highlights the problem to be solved or need to be met
- can be open ended- freedom or tight - specifications given + guidlines to follow
- answers questions designer might pose
4
Q
what is constraints
A
limitation/control/boundaries to be followed e.g budget
5
Q
what is research/investigation
A
- collecting information that considers all aspects of a problem
- can be found in books, online, past design ideas…
- research must be ongoing during process
- investigation: looks at ways which project = achieved
6
Q
what is design specification
A
- consists of the concept, criteria and constraints
concept: design ideas, variations and final design
criteria: relates to outcome, include quality, user behaviour, benefit, maintenance, safety, purpose, aesthetics, ergonomics
constraints: time, budget, quality of resources
7
Q
what is design inspiration + initial sketches
A
- inspiration - come from a variety of sources/research
- brainstormins = come up with initial idea
- initial sketches: quick sketches of ideas
8
Q
what is adaptation of ideas
A
- sorting through ideas, selcting one most promising/suitable for further development
- includes form, addition of detail, clarification of how aspects could go together
