Process Control Flashcards
Variability
Is the tendency of something to change it a lack of regular pattern
Variation
Is a change or difference in the properties of something
Process
Set of actions that transform our input into output
Specification
Defined parameters of the product characteristics. Clearly defined parameters are key to making a consistent product.
Target
The desired value of the process parameter eg. Temperature or percentage moisture.
Range
All processes have a degree of acceptable variation: upper and lower specification limits (USL,LSL)
Run chart/control chart
A graph used to study process changes over time. Results are plotted over time with the USL &LSL, and target vales specified.
- only constructed once the process is reasonably under control.
USL, LSL
Upper specification limit, lower specification limit. Set by operator.
Statistical process contol
To use simple tools to improve the process until it is well within specification. Know as process “capability”
Process capability
Is the ability of a manufacturing process to consistently make products within a specification. This specification is set by the manufacturing company to reflect the needs of the customer.
UCL, LCL
Upper control limit, lower control limit. Calculated limits based on the standard deviation info from process data. Give limits and expectations.
UWL, LWL
Upper warning limit, lower warning limit. Shows when results are trending out of spec.
