Procedures Flashcards
What is a procedure?
These are a set of written instructions that outline expected and required routines which are to be followed in specific situations for example accident reporting.
What is a policy?
These are detailed descriptions of how an organisation intends to conduct itself and its services/the actions it will take and their long term goals.
Policies provide guidelines to help with decision making
How do policies and procedures work?
They keep both the staff and the organisation safe and free from prosecution
Explain the difference between a policy and a procedure
Policies are clear, simple statements of how your organisation intends to conduct its services and actions. They provide a set of guiding principles to help with decision making.
Procedures describe how (a step by step guide) each policy will be put into action in your organisation. Each procedure should outline:
Who will do what
What steps they need to take
Which forms or documents to use.
Procedures might just be a few bullet points or instructions.
