The control of substances hazardous to health regulations 2002
Requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health and includes nano materials. You can prevent or reduce workers’ exposure to hazardous substances.
Health and Safety Work Act 1974
Employers must protect the health and safety and welfare at work for all employees, clients, visitors, and general public. This may include carrying out risk assessments, keeping records of accidents, health and safety training.
Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981
The provision of first aid in health and care settings which should be “adequate and appropriate”. Any incidents should be recorded in an accident book/form including nature of the incident, injury date & time , treatment.
RIDDOR 2013
Reporting diseases, accidents and illnesses at work is a legal requirement.
Health and Safety at work 1974
The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) governs the requirements of employers and employees to ensure that they maintain a safe working environment for all.
Care Act 2014
Replaces a number of existing acts. The purpose is to implement a system of support, putting the service user at the centre of care while integrating the needs of carers so support is in place before the service user’s situation is in crisis.
The Disability Discrimination Act 2005
Contained provisions making it unlawful to discriminate against a disabled person in relation to employment, the provision of goods, facilities and services, and the disposal and management of premises.
Mental Health Act 2007
The main purpose of the legislation is to ensure that people with serious mental disorders which threaten their health or safety or the safety of the public can be treated irrespective of their consent where it is necessary to prevent them from harming themselves or others.
Mental Capacity Act 2005
The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) is designed to protect and empower people who may lack the mental capacity to make their own decisions about their care and treatment. It applies to people aged 16 and over.
Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. 9 protected characteristics.
Human Rights Act 1998
The Human Rights Act is a UK law passed in 1998. It lets you defend your rights in UK courts and compels public organisations – including the Government, police and local councils – to treat everyone equally, with fairness, dignity and respect.
Data Protection Act 1998 -> General Data Protection Regulations GDPR 2018
All personal information held by any organisation cannot be shared without permission, kept up to date, used honestly, fairly and only for reason given. Info must be kept safe and secure, not passed to other countries or copied without consent.

Background checks on anyone working with vulnerable people in health, social and educational settings.

Ensures all children have a chance to reach their full potential by reducing levels of ill health and eradicating abuse or neglect.
The Children’s Act 2004
Duty to cooperate for all services concerned in care and safeguarding of children, setting up local safeguarding boards and promoting interests of disadvantaged children and young people.
