What are the three main functions of the Selection Tool?
Located in the upper left (set of 3) of menu or the top of wave form.
1. Set where you are recording from
2. Set where you are going play
3. Select what you are going to copy/paste/drag.
- Edit selection - adjust length
- Timeline selection
- Extend edit selection
Selector Drag with the Selector in a track’s playlist for an Edit selection, or in the
Ruler for a Timeline selection. To adjust the length of a selection, Shift-drag with
the Selector, or Shiftclick. To extend an Edit selection to other tracks, Shiftclick
with the Selector in the desired tracks.
What is the Grabber Tool used for?
Move region around.
a) Time Grabber Use the Grabber to select or move regions.
Pencil Use the Pencil tool to insert MIDI
b) Separation Grabber, separates selections into new regions.
c) Object Grabber (TDM systems only), allows selection of discontiguous
regions, which can even be on different tracks.
What is the difference between Time and Separation for the Grabber Tool?
Hand icon located by magnifying class.
Editing audio - want it on separation
Editing midi - want it on time
Time - moves entire track
Separation - moves selection
Time - moves regions
Separation - separates selections into new regions
What is the Trim Tool used for?
Located at beginning or end of a region (bracket)
Cut off or open up a region.
Summary: Resize regions or midi notes. TCE Trimmer expands/compresses to fit within a time range.
a) Standard Trimmer To resize regions or MIDI notes, drag or click near
their start/end points with the Trimmer tool. To reverse the direction of the Trim
cursor, which determines whether the start or end point is edited, press Option
(Macintosh) or Alt (Windows). The Trimmer can also be used to scale the values
for note velocities, controller events, and automation breakpoints.
* TCE Trimmer, expands or compresses audio material to fit within a time
range.
What does Shuffle Mode do?
Snap edits together precisely (if cutting). If pasting, it will insert vs overwrite
Restricts the placement of regions
so that they snap to each other and are placed end to end.(Snap to grid)
What does Slip Mode do?
Allows regions and notes to be moved and trimmed freely (no constraints). Regions can placed so that there is space between them, or so that they overlap.
When is Grid Mode useful?
Good when recorded to click track. Allows selecting of precise measures/cutting/pasting/etc. Only allows selecting measures.
Constrains edits and selections to the
current Grid value.
What is the shortcut for switching back and forth between Edit and Mix Window?

What is the shortcut for zooming in/out?
T, R
What is the shortcut for setting up a Group?
Select tracks then Command G
What is the shortcut for Insert a Marker?
Enter on keypad or plus sign on top left (markers area)
What is the shortcut for New Track?
Command shift N
What is the shortcut for Undo?
Z (if A-Z button is on), CTL-Z
What is the shortcut for Rewind to the top?
Return/Enter
What is the shortcut for Record?
3 on keypad, command space bar, F12
