What are the 7 main steps of the Mixing Process?

A

p34 in reader
1. Equalize Each Instrument Individually
2. Bring Up the Mix
a) Bring Up Fader/Volume
b) Pan to Taste
c) Bring up Effects
3. Refine Volumes, Panning, Equalization, and Effects
4. Automation - Plan Out and Practice Moves to be Done During Mix
5. Mastering - Add Compressor and Mastering Limiter (in that order) on a Stereo Master
Fader
6. Bounce to Disk – Create fade at the end on Master Fader if necessary. Select precise
beginning of song and set marker. Select precise end of song and set marker. Select
from Marker to Marker on any track and hit “BOUNCE TO DISK.” Set to “STEREO
INTERLEAVED,” “16” Bit, and “44,100.” Notice where you are saving it on your
hardrive (normally in the “AUDIO” folder of your session).
7. Burn CD – Go find the final mix and use your CD burning program to burn the CD.

  2. Set same bus to input and output (feedback loop)
  3. Lacking space on internal hard drive (need at least 1GB free) - when creating a new track or bouncing
