A

When an attachment had not been formed e.g. due to serve neglect or institutional care.

Describe Curtiss’ study.

A

Genie, aged 13 when found severe neglect, don’t know what exactly happened to her, interview with mum femmes unreliable, brain damage, couldn’t talk, walk or wash herself ect. Had social, development, language and medical tests daily. Learnt few words but never deemed ‘normal’.

Effects of privation.

A

Maternal deprivation hypothesis, Bowlby, critical period of 0-2.5 years old where attachment must be formed. If this is missed irreversible damage is cause to the child social, developmental and psychological health and well being.
