What are crop marks
Marks showing where the paper will be trimmed, image is printed over the lines in a bleed area to allow for tolerance so there are no little white edges when the paper is cut
What re colour bars for
Prints all the different colours to make sure the ink mixture for them is perfect. They are checked using a densitometer which makes sure the colours are perfect.
What are registration marks
Marks that are used to make sure all the printing colours align perfect. It should appear bold and not blurry and the colour of the last ink used.
What happens in finishing stage
Print is guillotined and finishes such as embossing are added
What is photomechanical transfer in offset lithography
They are thin aluminium and he colours of the image are separated into cmyk and printed out. These are placed onto the aluminium plates and UV light is shone through them. The plats have a special green coating that reacts to the UV. This means ink only sticks to the part of the plate where UV has hit it.
Why are lithography plates aluminium
They are flexible and can last up to 30,000 prints
How is offset lithography done
Aluminium plates put onto machine. Rollers apply slightly watered ink to the aluminium plates. Plates rolle over paper fed into machine and transfer ink
