Legal protection against a new design so no one without the permission of the inventor can use that design. They’re £200 and last about 20 years
What are the four criteria to get a patent
Must be new
Must be able to be produced industrially
Must be inventive
Must be a physical product or process
What is copyright
Similar to patent but protects art, texts, films and computer generated works instead. They last as long as the creator is alive and 79 years after they die
What is registered design
A way to protect your design by its shape, colour and pattern so no one else can copy it. Costs £60 and lasts 25 years
What is trade mark
A distinctive symbol that protects a companies name or slogan or logo. It costs £200
