Who was harry beck and what did he do

A

Be was an electrical draughtsman and he designed the London Underground maps. Before they were complex as they were geographically based so there were lots of complex shapes and bends so it was confusing. Be realised people didn’t care how far away te stations were but wanted know which one was next. So he designed a non geographical map based on electrical wiring diagrams that was a lot simpler and easy to read.

Who is Alberto Alessi

A

An Italian business man who owns a kitchen utensil company. He isn’t a designer but employs other designs to create unique and creative products that he then manufactures and sells. They don’t have to be practical but as long as they look good, alessi produces and sells them for a high price. A £1 squeezer will work better than his £50 one but people still buy it as it looks better

Who are jock kin near and Margaret Calvert

A

Both graphic designers who designed the road signs we use today. They designed a typeface that was sans serif called transport which was easy to quickly read. They also used pictograms as they were easy to understand at a quick glance. Before these, road signs were all different and confusing, dangerous when driving fast.

A

A graphic design brand consultent. He designs graphics for clients (companies, countries, charities etc) to improve their brand image and give them a corporate identity.

Who is Robert sabuda

A

A pop up book designer and illustrator who makes incredible books. He taught himself paper engineering which allowed him to design his popup books.
