Principles of Training - Definitions Flashcards
Learn definitions for principles of training
Specificity
Elements of training are made specific to the demands of the event, sport or position the athlete plays in
Frequency(FITT)
how many times you train (e.g. per week)
Intensity(FITT)
how hard the person is working. Measured using % of MHR, % of VO2MAX or % of maximal effort (resistance, speed) etc
Time(FITT)
The duration of exercise (e.g. per activity, per session or per week)
Type(FITT)
The type of exercise
Progressive Overload
the planned, gradual increase in training load to ensure that fitness continues to be optimised whilst reducing the chance of burnout or injury
Reversibility
When training ceases the long term adaptations to training decrease. This starts in the first 1-2 weeks
