Principles of training Flashcards
Name the principles of training
Specificity Progressive overload (relates to FITT) Individual needs/differences Rest and recovery Reversibility
Define specificity
Matching the training to the requirements of an activity.
Define progressive overload
Means gradually increasing the amount of overload so as to gain fitness without the risk of injury.
Define individual needs and differences
Matching the type of training to the requirements of an individual.
Define rest and recovery
Rest- The period of time allotted to recovery
Recovery- The time required to repair damage to the body caused by training or competition.
Define reversibility
If you stop training, you will loose fitness. So when you restart training you need to progress and overload the body back to the original level.
What are the FITT principles of training?
F- Frequency
I- Intensity
T- Time
T- Type
Define frequency
Frequency is how often an athlete trains, (it should be at least 3 times a week).
Define intensity
Intensity is how hard someone trains, (whatever the type of training it must be to a worthwhile intensity).
Define time
How long a training session must last, in order to have a benefit to fitness, (at least 20 minutes in your target zone).
Define type
Type means the methods of training chosen to acheive a persons particular( (specific) goal.
What percentage of your maximum should you be between to train your aerobic system?
60%-80%
What percentage of your maximum should you be between to train your anaerobic system?
80%-90%
