why does welfare pertain to veterinarians?
We have an OATH to protect animal health and welfare as well as the prevention and relief of animal suffering.
plus, we are the ones with knowledge on animal behavor and good practices, we have relationships with clients, and we have a responsibility to animal welfare and the consumers of the product.
is animal welfare the same as animal rights?
welfare – the physical and mental state of an animal in relation to the condition in which it lives or dies
rights – more subjective / personified.

- Freedom from hunger, malnutrition, and thirst
- freedom from fear and distress
- freedom from heat stress or physical discomfort
- freedom from pain, injury, and disease

- practices that are prohibited/willful acts of abuse

It goes against human behavior. The animals are not going to make changes to accomodate us, we have to make the changes.
