Principles of exercise Flashcards
FITT
Frequency - how many times a day
Intensity - how hard the exercise is to complete
Time - how long the exercise should take
Type of activity - e.g. aerobic, anaerobic
7 principles of training
Specificity - specific to the patients goals and needs
Overload - body should be put under more stress than its capable
Rest/recovery - allow body to handle exercise
Reversibility - if training is stopped progress is lost
Progressive overload - exercise needs to increase in intensity
Variety - decreases chance of patient getting bored/over training
Principles of mobility exercises
- Increase or maintain ROM
- increase tissue temperature
- increase local blood flow
- decrease exudate volume
- decrease pain via pain gate
Principles of strength training
physiological overload - muscle tissue needs to be challenged to a greater level than its used to
Reversibility - adapted changes are lost unless training is maintained
High load for muscular strength and low load for endurance
