MCL sprain
A
stretch/complete tear of the medial collateral ligament on the inside of the knee

MCL sprain pathology
A
- Due to impact on the outside of the knee, lower thigh or upper leg when the foot is planted on the ground and unable to move

Symptoms of MCL sprain
A
- pain at the knee
- limping
- valgus

Patellofemoral pain syndrome
A
- umbrella term for pain arising from the patellofemoral
joint itself or the soft tissue surrounding

Pathology of Patellofemoral pain
A
- Due to overuse and overload of the PF joint
- an anatomical or mechanical or anatomical abnormalities, muscle weakness or imbalance
- occurs when the patella glides to one side causing an over pressure on the femur
- if the VMO is not strong enough the vastus lateralis will exert a higher force which can cause a tilt of the patella
- weak quadriceps, tight iliotibial band tight hamstrings and tight calf muscles

Symptoms of patellofemoral pain
A
- anterior knee pain
- pain during climbing
- popping and cracking sounds
