Hip OA
A
- degenerative condition as a result of mechanical overload in the hip joint
2
Q
Pathology of Hip OA
A
- general wear and tear mainly affecting the articulatory cartilage
- Osteoarthritis commonly affects the articular cartilage of synovial joints
- loss of this cartilage causes bones to rub against each other
- (causing inflammation and pain)
- chondrocytes maintain a balance of breaking down and producing cartilage using enzymes
- increase in degradative enzymes occurs
- osteophytes are also formed
3
Q
Symptoms of Hip OA
A
- pain in groin/thigh area radiating to knee/buttocks
- stiffness (usually morning)
4
Q
Treatment of Hip OA
A
- passive movement to increase joint flexibility
- heat and ice
- manual therapy

Fracture to the neck of femur specifically the femoral head
6
Q
NOF Pathology

- extracapsular: outside of the capsule
7
Q
NOF symptoms
A
- pain in groin, thigh and knee
- difficulty weight bearing
- altered gait
