Primitive Reflexes Flashcards
What is the head/Labyrinthine Righting reaction?
When baby is head vertically in space tilting anterior or posteriorly will stimulate the child to orient their head
Onset: Birth-2 months
Integration : persists through life
What is the Landau Righting Reaction?
Baby is out in prone and mass extension occurs
Onset: 3-4 months
Integration: 12-24 months
What is Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR) ?
Baby turns head to one side and ipsilateral side ext, contralateral side flex.
Onset: birth
Integration: about 6 months
What is Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR)?
When head is flexed UE flex LE extend. When head extends UE Extends LE flexes.
Onset: 6 months to 8 months
Integration: 9-11 months
What is Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR)?
In supine body and head are in extension, in prone body and head are held in flexion
Onset: birth-6 months
Integration: ?
What is Galant Reflex?
Stroke the skin from the shoulder to the hip and it causes ipsilateral side bending.
Onset: 30 weeks gestation to 2 months
Integration:
What is the Palmar Grasp Reflex?
Pressure ont eh palm (ulnar side) causes flexion of the fingers
Onset: Birth to 4 months
Integration:
What is Plantar Grasp Reflex?
Pressure on the base of the toes causes Toe flexion
Onset: 28 weeks to 9 months
What is the Rooting Reflex?
Touch the cheek causes the head to turn to that side with the mouth open.
Onset: 28 weeks of gestation to 3 months
What is the Moro Reflex?
Head dropping into extension suddenly causes the arms to abduct with fingers open then cross body adduction and crying
Onset: 28 weeks gestation to 5 months
What is the Startle Reflex?
When a loud noise is played arms abducted then adduct but elbows and fingers stay flexed and baby cries
Onset:28 weeks to 5 months
What is the positive support reflex?
Weight placed on the balls of the feet when upright LE and trunk extend
Onset: 35 weeks gestation to 2 months
What is the Walking aka stepping reflex?
Supported upright position with soles of the feet on a firm surface causes reciprocal flex/ext of the legs
Onset: 38 week gestation to 2 months
