Where do the reflexes originate?
Lower CNS
what is the ATNR reflex?
Asymmetric tonic neck reflex- when turn baby’s head one direction, the face side arm extends and the back of the head side arm flexes
when does ATNR occur?
birth to 4-6 mo.
What is the rooting reflex?
baby turns mouth towards stroked cheek and sucks
when does rooting reflex leave?
3 mo.
What is the grasping reflex?
baby’s fingers and toes curl around pressure placed to palm or dorsum of foot
when does the palmer grasp reflex leave?
4-7 mo.
when does the plantar grasp leave?
7-9 mo.
What is the gallant reflex?
the baby’s hips shift towards the same side when you stroke down the side of the spinal cord
when does the gallant reflex leave?
3-6 mo.
What is the morrow reflex?
the “startle reflex”- when u sit a baby up and then suddenly drop them back, three things happen: arms extend out bilaterally, arms are brought back into chest, baby cries
when does the morrow reflex leave?
3-5 mo.
What 3 things occur in the morrow reflex?
arms go out, arms come in, baby cries
What is the stepping reflex?
when held up, baby bears wt. on legs and will step forward
when does the stepping reflex leave?
1-2 mo. bc baby gets too chubby for legs to move under their weight.
