Motor Learning Flashcards
3 stages of motor learning
1) cognitive( understands tasks, improvements are dramatic, inconsistent performance, verbal motor stage)
2) associative (smaller adjustments, improvements are smaller, motor stage)
3) autonomous (movement automatic, performer can do w/o paying attention)
how important is rest to practice sessions?
IMPORTANT! longer rests= more beneficial to performance
which is better, distributed or massed practice?
in general, distributed, but if u are short on time, its not always possible so u may have to use massed
is variability of practice good?
poorer acquisition but better retention of skill- some ppl (like children) may benefit from variable practice more than others
what is better, blocked or random practice?
blocked for learning but random for retention
symptoms that suggest problems with executive functioning?
- lack of initiation
- can only perform it if there is some external cue to begin.
- probs with planning and organizing
- inability to be flexible, or consider alternatives
- inability to match plan to goal
- problem solving deficits
- impulsivity
- inability to use feedback
Hick’s Law
time required to make a decision is linearly related to the amount of information that must be processed in coming to that decision. (as the number of choices increases it takes longer to select a response)
Fitt’s Law
time to complete an action depends on width (size of target) and proximity of targets to each other, in other words the index of difficulty
R side brain damage vs. L side brain damage
L= slow but accurate R= fast but inaccurate
max score on a minimental?
30,
<18= marked deficit
declarative/explicit memory/ learning?
Knowing What!
what is the capitol of CA?
what is 2x3?
procedural/implicit learning
Knowing How!
How to ride a bike.
