ACOG recommendation for lipid screening
Test every 5 yrs starting at 21 y/o
Treatment threshold for CVD
10% risk on 10 yr time-frame (maybe 7.5% if following ACC guidelines, which are stricter)
Risk factors that automatically qualify someone for lipid treatment
Known CVD, diabetes with elevated LDL and age >40, LDL > 190
Side effects of statins
Myopathy (2-10%), elevated LFTs

Colonoscopy q10yrs
Alternatives to colonoscopy
FOBT or FIT annually, flex sig / CT colonography q5yrs
Who qualifies for ASA ppx?
Adults >50 y/o: >10% CVD risk, no GI bleed risk, life expectancy >10 yrs, willing to take ASA for at least 10 yrs
Breast cancer chemoppx
Tamoxifen 20 mg daily
Raloxifene 60 mg daily or aromatase inhibitors for postmenopausal
Hep C screening guidelines
One time for anyone born between 1945 and 1965; also anyone at high risk
Indications for lung cancer screening (annual low-dose CT scan)
Age 55-80 if 30 pack year history and currently smoke or quit within the last 15 yrs
Diabetes screening
3 yr intervals beginning at 45 y/o +/- for people with risk factors like obesity / family history
Herpes zoster vaccine recommendation
Starting at 50 y/o, 2 doses of recombinant zoster vaccine (2-6 months apart)
Pneumococcal vaccine
Starting at 65 y/o or with chronic illness, 1 dose of Pneumovax 23
What is Prevnar 13?
Routine pediatric vaccination, can be given to adults with shared decision-making (but typically, Pneumovax sufficient)
Meningococcal vaccine recommendations
College or military, functional asplenia, complement deficiency, HIV
2 doses at least 2 months apart
Revaccinate q5yrs if risk continues
