Safety Features in a Mains Electrical System

A

Fuse- Placed in the live lead of the supply, designed to burn out and break the circuit if too much current flows. To calculate a fuse value P= V x I. Fuse values should be the next highest value so there is some room for spikes

Earth pin- on a mains plug is the first pin to connect and the last to disconnect

Circuit breakers- Often found in the mains fuse box are usually thermal or magnetic and unlike a fuse it can be reset. Called RCCB (residual current circuit breaker)
