Mains Cabling
A
Battery powered circuits use the 2 wire system (1 positive 1 negative) however due to the high energy in mains it needs 3 wires as 1 is a safety wire.

Mains Plug
A
Live (Brown) - This wire is the high energy wire and drives the current backwards and forwards
Neutral (Blue) - This wire is used to complete the circuit back to the source
Earth (Yellow and Green) - This is the safety wire and takes it to ground
