Danger of Electricity Flashcards

1
Q

Low Voltage DC Circuits (0-30V)

A

Burns- Excess current especially in resistors and IC’s can be hot causing burns

Explosions- Excess voltage is applied to components such as diodes and capacitors

Q

High Voltage AC Circuits (230V mains)

A

Fire/Explosion- Sparks from switches and wiring faults ignite flammable gases and liquids where you are working

Stored Charge- High voltage stored in capacitors can shock you even when the circuit is off

Electric Shock- Sufficient energy from a high voltage source can conduct through your body seeking a low voltage point usually the ground.

Q

First Aid

A
  1. Make the scene of the accident safe by isolating the mains / move the body away from the mains supply using an isolating aid
  2. Get help
  3. Assess the casualty using the basic first aid assessment by checking AIRWAY, BREATHING and CIRCULATION
  4. Carry out resuscitation if the casualty has stopped breathing, but only if you have been trained in the technique
