Pressure And Reversible Reactions Flashcards
What is Le chateliers principle ?
If a system is at equilibrium and a change is made to the conditions then the system responds to counteract the change
What will pressure effect ?
Reactions involving gases
What does the pressure depend on ?
The number of molecules
What happens if we increase the pressure ?
The equilibrium shifts to the side with the smaller number of molecules
How do you work out the amount of molecules for a reaction ?
Example: N2 + 3H2 <—> 2NH3
4 molecules on left hand side
2 molecules on the right hand side
That’s legit it you just count the big numbers
What happens if we reduce the pressure ?
Equilibrium shifts to the side with the larger number of molecules
What happens if you increase the pressure on a reaction with the same number of molecules ?
No effect as the number is the same on both sides
