Pressure and diffusion Flashcards
How do you find pressure?
Pressure = force/area
What is the SI unit of pressure?
N/m²
Why does an object resting on the surface exert pressure?
Because of the object’s weight
Why do people wear skis on a snowy surface?
Because it reduces the pressure so that you don’t sink in the snow
Why do people who play football wear studs?
So that they don’t slip by the feet sinking into the turf on the pitch and grip the surface more
What is a drawing pin?
A small pin with broad head that can be pushed into surfaces to hold up light materials
Why do hurdlers wear shoes that have spikes on their soles?
So that the high pressure pushes them into the hard track and that the hurdler’s feet do not slip when running at a high speed
Why do knives cut better when sharpened?
Knives cut well when sharpened due to the small surface area of the blade
How do solid particles move?
Solid particles vibrate to and from
How do liquid particles move?
Liquid particles have some freedom and can move over each other
How do gas particles move?
Gas particles move freely and at high speed
