Pressure Flashcards
How does a gas exert pressure?
The particles collide with each other and against the sides of the container. By pumping more gas into the container, the number of gas particles increases and this increases the number of collisions, therefore the pressure increases.
What happens if there are weak forces between the particles?
The particles are not held together and the particles move further apart.
What happens if there are strong forces between the particles?
The particles are held together and move or vibrate against each other.
Why can gases be compressed?
Because there are large spaces between the particles of gases, it can be pushed closer together.
What determine certain properties of matter?
The forces, amount of motion and spaces between the particles.
