Q

What is a model in science?

A
  1. A physical object, e.g. a bridge or construction.
  2. A theory that consists of a number of ideas and diagrams, e.g. the atomic model.
  3. A set of mathematical equations through which complicated phenomena can be explained, e.g. the gas laws.

Q

What is the particle model of matter theory?

A
  1. All matter is made up of small particles.
  2. The particles are constantly moving.
  3. There are empty spaces between the particles.
  4. There are attractive forces and repulsive forces between the particles.
  5. The particles constantly collide against each other and against the sides of the container without causing the kinetic energy to be transformed into other forms of energy.
  6. The average kinetic energy of all the particles remains constant, providing the temperature remains constant.
