Pressure Flashcards

1
Q

What is the total pressure in a container dependent on (2 things)?

A
  • The total number of collisions between the particles and the container
  • The force of each collision between the particles and the container

Q

How does increasing temperature effect the pressure?

A
  • Expandable container = increases volume NOT pressure
  • Fixed container:
  • Increasing temperature increases the kinetic energy of each particle
  • Particles move faster so more collisions occur and each collision has more force
  • More collisions nad stronger collisions = higher pressure

Q

How does increasing concentration effect the pressure?

A
  • Expandable container = increases volume NOT pressure
  • Fixed container:
  • Increasing concentration increases the number of particles in any given volume
  • Therefore, more particles collide with the container
  • More collisions = higher pressure

Q

How does increasing volume effect pressure?

A
  • Fixed container:
  • Increasing volume decreases the number of particles in any given volume
  • Therefore, less particles collide with the container as they have to travel further between each collision
  • Less collisions = lower pressure
