Electrical components Flashcards
1
Q
What does a fuse do?
A
- Breaks if the current flowing through is too high
2
Q
What does a diode do and what are the different types?
A
- Only allows current to flow through in one direction
- Light-emitting diode (LED) = emits light when current flows through it
3
Q
What does an ammeter do?
A
- Measures the current in a circuit
- Connected in series (current is the same everywhere)
4
Q
What does a voltmeter do and how is it connected?
A
- Measured potential difference in a circuit
- Connected in parallel
5
Q
What is a fixed resistor and variable resistor?
A
- Fixed resistor = provides a specific, fixed amount of resistance
- Variable resistor = allows you to modify the amount of resistance
6
Q
What is an LDR and thermistor?
A
- LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) = resistance decreases as light intensity increases
- Thermistor = resistance decreases as temperature increases
