EPM =
Electronic performance monitoring = organizational systems that use technology to gather, store, analyse, and report employee behavior data to assess performance and observe actions on the job.
Pros:
- Big-data representation of productivity and performance measurements.
Cons:
- Perceived injustice.
- Privacy invasion.
- Decreased satisfaction and organizational commitment.
AI in decision making – Artificial intelligence and the future of work: human-AI symbiosis in organizational decision making (Jarrahi, 2018)
AI =
Artificial Intelligence = intelligent systems that are able to think and learn.
Pros:
- AI can extent the human’s cognition in complex situations (quantitative data).
Cons:
- Humans are better in evaluating subjective and qualitative matters.
- Humans are better in big-picture thinking.
Gamification – A theory of work gamification: something old, something new, something borrowed, something cool? (Cardador, Northcraft, & Whicker, 2017)
Gamification =
Applying principles of digital and computer games in organizational contexts.
Pros:
- Increases work motivation and effectiveness.
Cons:
- Need to know how, why, and when it works. Effectiveness depends on worker characteristics and application characteristics.
