Mexico City is the capital of Mexico.

It is located in the Valle de México at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,350 ft).

Not only is it the most populous city Mexico, it is the most populous city on the western hemisphere.

The city has a rich history. It was founded by the Mexicas in the year one thousand three hundred twenty five. Legends say that the Mexican people of that time believed that the gods would give them a sign of where to build their city. This sign would be a golden eagle sitting atop a cactus while eating a rattle snake.
La ciudad tiene una rica historia. Fue fundada por los mexicas en el año mil trescientos veinticinco. Las leyendas dicen que los mexicanos de esa época creían que los dioses les darían una señal de dónde construir su ciudad. This prophecy came true and the Mexicas built their city on the site where the prophecy was fulfilled. This city eventually became the center of the Aztec Empire.

After the Spaniards conquered the Aztecs, they established Mexico City as the capital of the country. It has since became a central hub in the American continent.

Because of the high elevation, the weather in the city tends to be more mild than other Mexican cities at lower elevations. Most days, temperatures stay between fifty and eighty degrees.
