A

What are three basic components of the Reaffirm phase?
A
- Meeting basic physical health and safety needs
- Help students perceptions that they are safe
- Students/staff must be safe and feel safe before interventions can be delivered

As the first priority of keeping students and staff safe, what are some examples of how to do this?
A
- implementing your school’s ERP
- lock down procedures
- addressing basic physical needs - food, shelter, medication
- Adjust school environment - police presence on campus

What are some practical ways National Child Traumatic Stress Network and National Center for PTSD recommend?
A
- ID official who can address and resolve physical safety issues - law enforcement, Fire/Rescue, etc
- make sure the environment is safe from objects that could cause harm eg broken glass
- students should have a clean and safe environment to work and play, with adequate supervision
- being aware and sensitive to subgroups that might be targets for crisis related persecution

What are some considerations of Special Needs students?
A
- ensure adequate lighting, implement protective measures to minimize slipping, falling, etc.
- ensure students who lack mobility or may fall easily are in places with adequate access, not require stairs
- ensure access to mobility and sensory devices, e.g. wheel chairs, glasses, hearing aids
- ensure self care needs are met, e.g. power sources for medical fragile equipment
- ensure medications are available
- ensure students with autism avoid unfamiliar and over-stimulating environments
