Prelab Lecture 3 Flashcards
What is the quadrangular space boundaries?
Sup: teres minor Inf: teres major Medial: long head of triceps brachii Lat: surgical neck of humerus Ant: subscapularis
What runs thru the quadrangular space?
Axillary nerve + posterior circumflex humeral artery + vein
What does the axillary nerve supply?
Deltoid + teres minor
Supraspinatus O I A IN
O: Supraspinatus fossa of scapula
I: Greater tubercle of humerus
A: adduction of arm
In: Suprascapular nerve
Infraspinatus O INS A IN
O: Infraspinatous fossa of scapula
I: Greater tubercle of humerus
A: Ext. rotation of arm
N: supra scapular nerve (C4-C6)
Teres Minor O INS A In
O: upper two thirds of lateral margin of scapula
Ins: greater tubercle of humerus
Action: ext. rotation adduction of arm
In: axillary nerve
What are the rotator cuff muscles?
Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor
Subscapularis
Subscapularis O In A Inn
O: sub scapular fossa of scapula
In: lesser tubercle of humerus
A: internal rotation + extension of arm
Inn: sub scapular nerve
Is teres major a rotator cuff muscle? What is it innervated by?
NO, innervated by lower sub scapular nerve
What does the suprascapualr notch + superior transverse scapular ligament transmitting?
Subscapular nerve + suprascapular artery
What are the boundaries of the axilla?
Anterior wall: clavicle, pectorals major + minor
Posterior wall: scapula, subscapularis, teres major, latissimus doors
Medial: ribs + serrates anterior muscle
Lateral: inter tubercular groove of humerus + long head of biceps brachii
Base: skin covering armpit
Apex: clavicle ventrally, superior border of scapular dorsally, 1st rib medially
Identify the parts + branches of the axillary artery
Subclavian- > thyrocervical trunk-> axillary -> thoracoarcomial artery + trunk ->(subscapular -> circumflex scapular -> thoracodorsal) -> posterior circumflex humeral
Identify the branches of the thyrocervical artery
Subclavian -> thyrocervical -> suprascapular + transverse cervical arteries
What is the relationship of the brachial plexus to the axillary artery?
Posterior cord is posterior to axillary artery
