Name some causes of prejudice
Upbringing – the attitudes of parents against a certain group are also believed by the children so that the children behave in an unfair way.
A bad experience with someone from a certain group.
Biased coverage of events by the media.
Ignorance – judging someone or a group in a negative way without any real knowledge.
Scapegoating – blaming others as an excuse for a problem such as Hitler blamed the Jews for economic problems in Germany
How is discrimination shown?
Verbal – making a comment or a joke.
Physical – violent action towards a person, even to the point of murder.
Abuse of property – negative graffiti slogans.
Discrimination by action – not employing someone, shunning, or bullying
Describe the concept of justice
This is where laws are designed to keep society fair; where there is an issue, injustice, then the law exists to make it right, provide justice

People understanding why and how others are different so that they are accepting of them.

This is where everyone in the area working together are working for a joint good – a bad deed against one is a bad deed against the whole community

2000 race relations
Amendment act – amended the 1976 act to protect people in the public sector, police, and government. Stressed the need to promote harmony and diversity.
