Pregnancy Pharmacology Flashcards
What do Uterotonic Drugs do?
Stimulate Uterine contraction
What do Tococlytic Drugs do?
Inhibit Uterine Contractions
What drugs can be used to induce labor?
Oxytocin, Misoprostol, Dinoprostone
What drugs can be used for Cervical Ripening?
Misoprostol and Dinoprostone
What drugs can be used for post-partum to aid in placental delivery
Oxytocin
What drugs can be used for bleeding control post-partum
Oxytocin, Misoprostol, Carboprost, Methylergonovine
What Calcium Channel blocker can be used for short-term control of premature labor?
Nifedipine
How does Insulin help in gestation diabetes?
Insulin stimulates Glucose transporter expression and uptake of plasma glucose
Do Glipizide and Glyburide (2nd gen sulfonylureas) cross the placental barrier?
No
What drugs are used for Gestational HTN?
Methyldopa, Labetalol, and Nifedipine
What HTN Drug is only used for HTN emergencies in pregnancy?
Hydralazine
What drug is given in severe pre-eclampsia to prevent seizures?
Magneisum Sulfate
What drug is an Alpha 1, Beta 1, and Beta 2 antagonist?
Labetalol
What is special about Methyldopa?
Methyldopa is an Alpha-2 agonist.
Alpha 2 is a pre-synaptic receptor that inhibits the release of NE from the neuron. Results in decreased sympathetic output.
MOA of Hydralazine
Directly inhibits vascular smooth muscle contraction by blocking IP3-induced release of Calcium ions
