How would one become pregnant?
have sexual intercourse in which the male would ejaculate into the female fertilizing her ovum with sperm.
What is the first thing to happen after fertilisation occurs?
Zygote travels along the fallopian tube to the uterus where it implants itself in the endometrium.
What is the placenta?
It is a disc-like structure that forms to feed the developing baby. It is also the filter between mother’s blood and baby’s blood.
How is the embryo connected to the placenta?
Via the umbilical cord.
After a few weeks what do the cells turn into?
They become muscles, bones, heart and blood vessels.
After 8 weeks the embryo becomes a?
foetus
What is the period called from fertilisation till birth called?
Gestation period
What is the amniotic sac and what is its function?
It is a sac that is filled amniotic fluid that surrounds the embryo. Its main function is to protect the foetus.
What are the three ways contraception methods work?
- Prevent the egg being released (prevent ovulation)
- Prevent sperm reaching the egg (prevent fertilisation)
- Prevent embryo implantation or development.
What is the most effective method of contraception?
Abstinence
What is the least effective method of contraception?
Diaphragm
