Q

Why do pregnant women experience anaemia

A

Women’s bodies increase plasma volume whilst pregnant to protect against haemmhorage at birth. This leads to a diluted haemoglobin level.
The increased plasma volume is caused by an increase in oestrogen and progesterone which acts on kidneys to increase renin secretion which increases salt and water retention
